“ | Color Gun? More like Color GONE! | „ |
~ Juice Velvet[1] |
The Color Gun is a removed hand-held tool that used to allow the color theme of buildings to be changed, improving the aesthetics of the factory and allowing color-coding. It consumed one Color Cartridge for each use and had a magazine size of 100. When reloading, it consumed up to 100 Color Cartridges from the pioneer's inventory.
It was replaced by the Customizer.
Obtaining[]
Unlocking[]
The Color Gun used to be unlocked in the now removed Flower Petals research chain with 100 Iron Plates, 250 Screws and 250 Wire.
Color Cartridges used to be unlocked in the same research chain in an adjacent research node for 100 Flower Petals.

Usage[]
While the Color Gun was equipped, allowed to choose one of the 16 preset color themes. The preset color for each theme could be edited, but doing so would also update all objects which used that theme. The top-left color theme was the default "orange and blue" theme that all buildings start with, changing this theme changes all unpainted buildings.
Each color theme consisted of two colors. In the right-click menu, the player could use the sliders to edit each color. Or, by clicking on the numbers on the right, a number could be manually entered. Here, a custom-defined HSV color space was used, which was different from the common HSV color space. A building being targeted by the color gun would be highlighted. The paint cursor at the center of the game window indicated whether the current target could be painted; if it was paintable, it showed the paint bucket icon with a drop. If not, it would show an 'X' beside the paint cursor.

Hidden color slots[]
There were two color slots which could not be changed in-game, but could be changed with 3rd-party save editors or mods. Altering these changed the default color of Foundations and Pipelines respectively, which do not follow the first color slot's color like other buildings.
The third, vehicle color slot, could only be viewed, but not edited. The primary color matches the default factory theme while the blue has a different shade.

AWESOME Sink[]
The Color Gun would yield 860 points when sunk into the AWESOME Sink.
Trivia[]
- A Color Cartridge would be consumed even if the pioneer aimed at nothing or painted a building with the same colors it already had.
- Contrary to its description, it could not paint vehicles, not even by changing the default color scheme.
