SAM Ore, which stands for Strange Alien Metal, is a rare resource found in the world. It is currently used to progress the Alien Technology research tree in the MAM.

Obtaining[]

Resource acquisition[]

SAM can be harvested by hand (default E) in trace amounts from resource deposits scattered across the world, or from inexhaustible resource nodes on which Miners can be constructed to extract automatically. Additionally, Lizard Doggos will occasionally bring it when tamed.

Number of SAM resource nodes is as follows:

Node
purity
Number
of nodes
Mk.3
mining rate
Mk.3 mining rate
at 250 %
Impure 10 1,200 3,000
Normal 6 1,440 3,600
Pure 3 1,440 2,340* / 3,600
Total 19 4,080 8,940* / 10,200

*Note: The extraction rate of a Miner Mk.3 at 250 % is 1,200/min, but a Mk.5 Conveyor can only carry 780/min, therefore the maximum mined amount cannot be transported.

Usage[]

Crafting[]

SAM Ore is currently only used to craft Reanimated SAM, costing 4 SAM Ore for 1 Reanimated SAM. This can be done in either a Constructor or the Crafting Bench.

AWESOME Sink[]

File:SAM.png SAM can be sunk into the AWESOME Sink to yield 20 points (it cannot be sunk and will clog the input[EX]).

By Update 1.0 SAM Ore now can be sunk into the AWSOME Sink!

Trivia[]

  • SAM Ore is story-related.[1][2]
    • Due to story elements being added alongside or just before 1.0, the use for SAM Ore may be implemented into the game very late on. However, Coffee Stain has considered implementing SAM content earlier on by stripping it of the story elements.
    • It will likely be a MAM resource.
    • Its content will "mostly be used by players nearing the end of the game to solve problems around their factories they might not want to deal with as much at that point".
  • It cannot be sorted using the Smart Splitter or the Programmable Splitter using normal settings. For example, setting specific items to go left and/or right and the center as "Any Undefined" will result in a SAM Ore sort by default.
